Introductory Workshop – Beginners Introduction to Oil Painting

This oil painting workshop is designed for those who are new to oil painting!!!

In this 3 hour workshop, I will teach you about oil painting materials, where to get them and how to use them. How to prepare your boards, clean your brushes and how to paint a painting from beginning to end.

Depending on your level of skill, we will hopefully complete two paintings which will be a nice introduction to the following techniques used by the old masters, including: –

  • grisaille,
  • ebauche,
  • glazing, and
  • Impasto

We will also take an introductory look at value, colour, colour mixing, various colour palettes and composition.

Now, this is a hands-on course where you guys will be doing the work, I’ll be there to show you step by step how to paint each painting in a relaxed environment where you can ask me any questions which I will answer or demonstrate for you.

I will also send out a set of notes the week before the workshop starts and another set of notes on the materials and a step-by-step instruction on the paintings we carry out on the day!!!

“Emily hosted a really informative, practical and very enjoyable workshop. Her studio is a light filled, creative space with your own easel, paint etc. Emily is very organised with everything set up ready to go. She has shared a lot of information that I really needed. I also came away with two paintings that, at the start of the workshop, I had no idea I could create! Highly recommended.”

“I took part in Emily’s beginner workshop and I was blown away with the experience. I was struggling with the basics and I came away with so much information and the motivation to improve. Emily was so supportive throughout and the whole workshop was a treat.
I hope to join the advanced classes later in the year once I practice a bit more. If you are new to oils, Emily’s beginner workshop is the way to go.”
