Introductory Workshop – Beginners Introduction to Oil Painting

This oil painting workshop is designed for those who are new to oil painting!!!

In this 3 hour workshop, I will teach you about oil painting materials, where to get them and how to use them. How to prepare your boards, clean your brushes and how to paint a painting from beginning to end.

Depending on your level of skill, we will hopefully complete two paintings which will be a nice introduction to the following techniques used by the old masters, including: –

  • grisaille,
  • ebauche,
  • glazing, and
  • Impasto

We will also take an introductory look at value, colour, colour mixing, various colour palettes and composition.

Now, this is a hands-on course where you guys will be doing the work, I’ll be there to show you step by step how to paint each painting in a relaxed environment where you can ask me any questions which I will answer or demonstrate for you.

I will also send out a set of notes the week before the workshop starts and another set of notes on the materials and a step-by-step instruction on the paintings we carry out on the day!!!

Location: My oil painting workshops are held at my art gallery and studio located just outside Dunboyne Co. Meath beside the Hatchet Pub, and centrally located between Kilcock, Maynooth, Dunshaughlin and approximately 20-30 minutes from Trim and Clonee by car. Not far from Kildare, Dublin, Westmeath and Wicklow in Co. Meath.
